Surveillance Dashboard

Welcome to the NPHN Surveillance Dashboard - a comprehensive and interactive resource for blood-borne virus surveillance data for Australian prisons, including both national and jurisdictional datasets and data for specific sub-populations. Co-designed with stakeholders from across the prison sector, the NPHN Surveillance Dashboard was developed to provide the sector with readily accessible prison-based blood-borne virus surveillance data. The Dashboard is intended to inform key stakeholders, allow benchmarking across jurisdictions, and underpin advocacy for improvements in scale-up of testing, treatment, and prevention.

Getting started

  • The cover tab of the Dashboard is the Summary Infographic which showcases data from across  the various tabs. By default, the data are presented nationally, but can also be explored by state/territory (simply click on the map) and/or by sub-population (using the drop down menu).

  • The Dashboard features eight interactive tabs, accessible by clicking on the icons on the left-hand side of the page. Hover over each icon to see the topic and explore various interactive elements within each tab.

  • For further information, navigation instructions, and helpful tips, scroll down below the Dashboard, or click here.

  • We’d appreciate your feedback! Please take a moment to complete a brief survey about your experience with the Dashboard by scrolling down below the Dashboard, or by clicking here

ABOUT THE DASHBOARD

The Dashboard features dedicated tabs for prison-based hepatitis C service characteristics, testing and treatment rates, prevalence, injecting behaviours, and engagement in opioid agonist therapy. It also includes some data on hepatitis B and HIV and overall characteristics of the Australian prison population and setting. The Dashboard is regularly updated with the most recent data available.

NAVIGATION

Jurisdiction-specific data

Using the map: each tab includes a map of Australia, often on the top right-hand side of the tab. Click on a state/territory on the map to view data for specific jurisdictions. To reset to national data, click the ‘reset arrow’ icon in the top right corner above the map.
Comparing states/territories: there is a dedicated tab for comparison of any two selected jurisdictions, side-by-side with national data.
Data availability: note that data for ACT and Victoria are unavailable in certain tabs as these jurisdictions did not participate in one of the key data sources for the Dashboard – that is, the first round of the AusHep survey.

Sources and references

Information icon: in the bottom right corner of each tab, there is an information icon (an encircled ‘i’). Hover over this icon to view the data sources and disclaimers. On some tabs with multiple sources, hovering over the data itself will display the direct source.

Finding additional data

Interactive elements: the Dashboard is interactive. Hover over data points, sections of graphs, maps, and icons to see pop-up boxes with definitions, detailed information, and data sources.
Additional data: on the right-hand side of several tabs, under the map, you will find more detailed data, including raw numbers and national statistics. Selecting a state/territory will trigger jurisdiction-specific data to be displayed also, for comparison with the national data.

Hyperlink limitations: occasionally, hyperlinks may appear above certain data sections but do not function. This is a limitation of Tableau – the graphic display software. If you encounter non-functional links, please ignore them.
